How do you prep a D&D session when you have no idea what your players are going to do?
Today I’m going Behind the Screen and prepping my next in-person D&D session for my ongoing Tomb of Annihilation campaign.
The party is heading toward the Fane of the Night Serpent to deal with Ras Nsi. But there’s a problem!
So let’s figure out what happens next.
I’ll be building the session live, including encounters, NPC motivations, possible player choices, locations, story beats, and the things I don’t need to prepare.
This isn’t a polished DM tutorial. It’s the actual process I use to prepare a D&D game.
If you’re a Dungeon Master looking for practical D&D advice, campaign ideas, encounter design tips, or just want to see what happens Behind the Screen, grab your dice and prep with me.
